DONOVAN’S TÜREINGANG
Eine Szene in Liverpool: Ein Hund schleckt aus einer Pfütze, aus einer Tanzschule dringt ein klopfendes Geräusch herüber. Es ist der Tanzlehrer, der zu den Noten, die in einem alten Klavierstuhl aufbewahrt werden, den Takt schlägt. In dem Eingang zu Donovan’s Geschäft (einem Tante-Emma-Laden) steht ein Polizist mit einem großen Gummiknüppel, größer als in anderen englischen Städten üblich. Er hält Ausschau nach Randalierern, denn an diesem verregneten Abend findet ein Fußballspiel statt. Die Spieler fahren in großen Limousinen vor, die Zuschauer gehen zu Fuß. Wir könnten die ganze Nacht auf dieser Straße gehen und über alles mögliche reden. Aber es sieht nicht gut für uns aus, es geht nicht um das Spiel heute abend, sondern um die Lage im allgemeinen, und die ist schlecht: Sogar die Kirche wird in ein Haushaltwarengeschäft umgewandelt. Jeder weiß, wie es steht. Aber auf ein Plakat mit dem Slogan “Hilf den Armen” sind zwei Herzen gemalt, dazu die Namen Mick und Caroline.
